Charlotte Ann,
Happy 4th Birthday!!! You are so inquisitive, intuitive, and compassionate. You have a beautiful sense of wonder about the world around you, and your fourth year of life was filled with incredible adventures..
A couple months after you turned 3 years old, you began asking for a "new baby." But you didn't simply want a baby doll, you wanted a real baby. Then, with your incredible childlike faith, you prayed for that baby. You talk about how you remember laying in bed one night and asking God for a baby sister...and that He gave you a "thumbs up." So, it was no surprise to you when you learned that Momma had a baby in her belly a month later... Your heart inspires us, and we pray that you always keep your sense of wonder and faith!
You experienced your first glimpse of the world outside of the U.S. when we traveled to visit your cousins in Thailand last December, and you proved to be a great little traveler. Seeing the world through your eyes was so much fun, and you soaked up every bit of this grand adventure! You did amazingly well on the loooong flights, despite getting sick at first, and you were in awe of the different cultures we experienced along our route. In Thailand, you were over the moon to reconnect with your cousins, who you consider best friends. You cherish your family, and getting to experience a brave new world with them was the experience of your life!
You are a very athletic child, even at this young age. You can keep up with kids who are twice your size, and you often gravitate towards playing with older children. This year, we enrolled you in your first "extracurricular" activity - gymnastics! You absolutely love it and look forward to every Thursday evening, when you go to the gym to perfect your cartwheel, flip into the ball pit, and play on the rings (your very favorite!) You are also Sooner born and bred, and you love cheering on OU sports!
You continue to thrive in "school" (the Children's Day Out program you attend 4 days per week) and can not only recognize and write all of the letters of the alphabet, but you're also starting to sound out words and have shown interest in early reading skills. You come home weekly singing new songs and asking new questions ("Mom, when will we get to go to Heaven?"), and your inquisitive little mind never stops. You currently aspire to be a veterinarian when you grow up (like your favorite cartoon character, Doc McStuffins :)
Your memory is astounding. Although you still don't have a full concept of time ("yesterday" = any day in the past to you), your long term memory amazes us. You can recall details of conversations from months or even years ago as if they just happened. You are so observant, even reminding your Didi one day that his chapstick was in his "left pocket," where he had subconsciously placed it hours ago.
You have embraced your big sister role, and now you like to remind us that you are the BIGGEST sister with the addition of your new baby Lillian, who you prayed for! You are a really great helper with both of your little sisters, and we can see so clearly that God equipped you to be a leader. You love people, and your sisters most of all!
Keep being YOU, Charlotte Ann! You keep us on our toes and challenge us daily to become better. You are one of a kind, and there is no one else who can ever be you. We love you, our little Sunshine! May you never lose your sense of wonder...

In closing, I want to share some words that the director of your "school" shared with us this year. It really sums up your character and heart: I wanted to send a quick note to brag on Miss Charlotte and how gracefully she handled a situation today. As the incident report stated, another child had a moment of struggle today. Unfortunately, Charlotte was nearby and got swept into the commotion of the moment. Later, the other child expressed remorse and agreed that she should apologize to Charlotte. The other child approached Charlotte and started an apology; however, before she even got all of her words out, Charlotte wrapped her up in a warm embrace and told her "it's okay". That moment of pure grace and forgiveness blew me away! What a beautiful heart Charlotte has!
