My Girls

Charlotte and Adeline,

Your world is about to change in a major way when we welcome our 'Baby Junebug' this month... and although you are both very excited about your new little sister, I know this change will bring some major adjustments  as we become a family of 5...

I want you to know that even though your baby sister will undoubtedly require much of my attention as she adjusts to this big world, you girls also still have ALL of my heart - and that will never, ever change! God gives mommas the capacity to expand our hearts to welcome new babies without compromising our love for any of our children.

The song I sing to you will need to be adapted to include Junebug, but it will still hold the same meaning then as it does now:

I've got Adeline Grace and Charlotte Ann,
My two favorite girls in all the land
I've got Addie and Charli, Grace and Ann.
The two  _______ [most beautiful/strongest/bravest/sweetest] girls in all the land...!

The bond that the two of you share continues to grow sweeter each day.  You are learning the beauty of living with your best friend and always having someone to play with.  You've been roommates, sharing giggles late into the night. You've been partners in crime, making messes around the house in record time. You've been world travelers, braving big adventures together. I have no doubt your bond will only grow stronger over time!

Together, you are a sister force to be reckoned with.  But individually, you are also incredibly unique with special traits of your own!

Adeline (18 months) ...

The baby of our family up to this point, you are super affectionate and soak up ALL of the snuggles. You love hugging, blowing kisses, and just being near your people. You have amazing hair that looks perfect even after first waking up and a toothy grin that melts our hearts.  You are full of constant giggles, new words, and a whole lot of sweetness... but make no mistake, you are mischievous! While you appeared so quiet and cautious for the first year of your life, we've learned over the last 6 months that you were very purposefully observing and learning every trick in the book the whole time! If a minute goes by where we can't hear your little voice, we can assume you are stirring up the toilet, unraveling the toilet paper roll down the hall, climbing on top of the table, helping yourself to the pantry, "rearranging" a closet, or any other number of tricks you've learned. We love that despite your usual peaceful, gentle demeanor, you are also now declaring your confidence and your sense of humor!

Charlotte (3 years. And a half... don't forget the half)...

Adventurous, brave, and extroverted as ever, you continue to amaze us with your confidence. You never forget the name of a person you've met, and you love a good party. Wherever there are people, you want to be there. We have seen you mature in new ways this year, as you've really embraced your nurturing instincts. You constantly want to take care of other people and make sure everyone is okay (even your parents!)  Your empathy and intuition are amazing beyond your age - did I mention you knew I was pregnant before I did?! - and you always seem to notice when someone is sad, hurting, or needs an extra hug. You thrive in learning environments, and you soak up everything you learn in school, church, and everywhere in between. Your favorite hobbies include teaching your sister new things, having picnics with your stuffed animals, gardening and taking care of your worm farm with Daddy, and drawing pictures/writing notes for everyone you know. You have kept us on our toes from day one with your energy and gusto for life, and the song in your heart continues to bring joy and laughter wherever you go!

I am so blessed to be Momma to such amazing little ladies who make me a better person every day!  Being the person you run to, cry to, laugh with, and look to for reassurance is the joy of my life. I have no doubt that you will both embrace your new role as big (and biggest) sister as we prepare to welcome the newest Baby Girl Peek. She is one lucky little lady...

Love you always and forever,
Momma
