Charlotte Ann,
You are a little lady on the move! During your fifth month, it became quickly apparent that when we set you down and walked away for even a minute, you would not be in the same spot when we returned. Though you haven't quite mastered the art of crawling, it hasn't stopped you one bit...you are scooting, rolling, and moving any other way you can to reach your destination. Your most favorite activity has been log-rolling on the floor, from one side of the living room to the other. And when you catch a glimpse of us watching you, you get the biggest grin on your face, so pleased with your own performance. You are trying to sit up unsupported, but you usually topple forward after only a few seconds. Your legs and arms are so strong and in constant motion, and it is hard for you to sit still even in your Bumbo because you just want to be moving!
If it is possible to be more vocal than you already were without using actual words, you definitely are. You continue to sing, squeal, and grunt, using a language that only you truly understand. When the radio is on in the car, it isn't unusual for us to hear your sweet cooing sounds in the backseat as you "sing along". We are working on "ma-ma-ma-ma" sounds (shhhh, don't tell Daddy), and you can't get enough of playing "peek-a-boo" and loud smooches on your cheeks and belly - it cracks you up every time!
This teething business, though...it is hard work! It's a good thing you will really need those chompers; otherwise this would be all for nothing. You are putting everything in your mouth (including your hands and feet) in an effort to help those teeth along, and it's made for some long, tearful nights (for all of us ; )
Some significant events occurred during your fifth month. Just to name a few...
First Christmas! This was such a sweet holiday season, seeing the wonders of Christmas through your eyes. Every shiny ornament, every jingle bell, every detail was a whole new world to you, and you took it in with all of your senses. We spent Christmas Eve camping out in the living room by the glow of the tree, and you thought it was pretty neat to be sleeping in the same room as Momma and Daddy (because that definitely hasn't happened since you were only a month old!) We celebrated Christmas with both sides of the family, and you hardly got any gifts at all, you poor baby... ha! Books, toys, and clothes, oh my! Momma and Daddy kept your gift simple with a giant plush stuffed elephant (bigger than you - see above photo!), but we knew your grandparents would have a few gifts with your name under the tree as well. Your cousins loved having PJs that matched yours, and you were in awe of watching them tear through their wrapping paper.
Speaking of cousins... you are no longer the baby...or the baby girl cousin!!! You are almost exactly 4 months older than sweet Liberty Faith, who you got to meet when she was only a few hours old. The two of you have already shared clothes, strollers, and sat in the backseat together on your first girls' road trip. You are destined to be best friends and world changers; we can't wait to see what a special friendship you will have as you continue to grow!
Happy 5 months sweet girl!!!
Love,
Us
