Tails, Okla-HOME-a...Some Things Never Change

I keep pinching myself to see if this is real life.

In a matter of weeks, I said goodbye to dear friends in North Carolina and headed west to Oklahoma, with everything we owned in the back of a moving truck that was somewhere along I-40.  I journeyed west with my dear mother, who had sacrificed the past 2 weeks of her life helping us pack all of our belongings, and our two dachshunds - three of the best travel buddies I could ask for.

We took our time road tripping across the country, stopping to stay with friends in Memphis and touring every other rest stop on I-40 for this pregnant momma  the dogs to stretch their legs.  As soon as we crossed the Oklahoma border, we made a mandatory stop at Braum's so that I could savor the REAL ice cream that I've been missing all these years.  We drove into my new hometown just as the Oklahoma sun was setting over the wide open fields and the wind literally came sweeping across the plains. Some things never change.

During my first week in Oklahoma, I met my new midwife, officially became a homeowner, and started my new job.  While these huge milestones were exciting, there was one thing missing...my other half!  He had stayed behind in NC to wrap up his job and would soon be joining me, but two weeks somehow felt like two years.  Then, I got an unexpected phone call on July 4th...he asked where I would be watching fireworks that evening...because he was already in Oklahoma! It was a 4th of July surprise I will never forget. We had [a fairly un-patriotic] dinner at our favorite Mexican restaurant and then joined family for a beautiful fireworks display. Fireworks and family are my favorite. Some things never change.

The moving truck finally arrived, and we began to set up our family's first home.  My parents found a house they love 10 minutes from us and bought it within 24 hours of its listing.  We enjoy spending time with my sister and brother-in-law (who are also expecting a baby in a few months!!!) and we love being Aunt Leigh and Uncle JJ to our awesome nephews who live across town.  JJ's family is just over an hour away, and we are already enjoying Mammo's famous brownies day trips to visit them.   I am able to have spur of the moment brunches and dinners with my college girlfriends.  I continue to look forward to each day at my new job, and JJ has the great opportunity to continue working remotely for Wake Forest during this time of transition. And now, we are officially season ticket holders for OU Football...because some things never change!

As I sit here in our new house with the windows open, listening to a classic Oklahoma summer storm and feeling my baby girl stretch in my stomach, I could not be more thankful to serve a God who answers prayers in ways I could have never dreamed.  He cares about the desires of our hearts and leads us into the center of His will, where we are blessed beyond measure.  From the secret desires of our hearts (like my prayer to someday be pregnant at the same time as my big sister) to our biggest dreams, He knows them all.  He is not a genie in a bottle, who grants our every wish, but rather a wise Father who gives us exactly what we need (and withholds the things we don't) in His perfect timing. The world around us evolves and our lives take unexpected turns...but He never changes!
