North Carolina is a place that will always hold incredible
memories for us – it was the place we landed after moving across
the country, where we hardly knew a soul besides each other. It’s where we endured 2 years of residency
and then started our first “grown-up jobs”.
It was where we began our marriage and built a strong foundation in our
tiny little rent house on Magnolia Street.
It’s where we moved to a house across town to plant our first garden and grow our
first baby.
We hiked the Blue Ridge Mountains of Asheville and enjoyed the culinary delights of Winston-Salem.
We snowboarded the slopes of Ski Beech mountain and ran our first marathon
on the beaches of the Outer Banks. We
road-tripped all over the east coast, making weekend getaways in favorite places like
D.C., Roanoke, Virginia Beach, and Charleston.
We built relationships at work and church with faithful
friends who became like family; we befriended “Doorstep Shannon,” who
constantly showed up looking for work and hope because she had no family. We visited extravagant Southern estates where
we experienced true Southern hospitality; we glimpsed hardened inner city
lives where we experienced the brutal honesty of troubled teenagers.
All of these experiences, places, and people made North
Carolina home to us over the past 5 years. Last week, as I pulled out of our driveway in Winston-Salem for the last time and headed west for new adventures, I thanked God for allowing us to make so many great memories here...
