Three Months!

Sweet Charlotte Ann,

No doubt about it, you are incredibly sweet. You grin with your entire little body, and you talk like you have things to say far beyond your 3 months of life. You've recently entered a phase I like to call the "sweet spot" - you are so interested in the world around you, from your discovery of your tiny hands to your fixed gaze on Momma wherever she moves within the house.  You are so engaging and vibrant, and yet you love to snuggle. You are rolling over like a champ but not yet truly mobile, so it is easy to keep an eye on you.  Yes, this is definitely the sweet spot.

But make no mistake, you are also adorably sassy! You never hesitate to let it be known when you would rather be rolling around on a blanket on the floor instead of being held. You can go from cooing and giggling to sticking that bottom lip out and whimpering in less than 2 seconds because you want a change of scenery.  You've mastered the art of arching your back and loudly protesting nap time in favor of playtime... Keeping up with you is going to be an adventure, but we wouldn't have it any other way!

This month, we endured 2 weeks without Daddy, who went to Zimbabwe on a mission trip. We missed him a lot, but it made our family's reunion that much sweeter! He even brought you back authentic African souvenirs to go with your elephant-themed nursery.  We then dedicated you at church in a meaningful and memorable service. We are thankful God chose us to be your parents!

During your third month, there were also many memorable and adventurous "firsts"...

First hike! We hiked trails at a nearby lake on a beautiful fall day, and you were fascinated with the trees and the big blue sky. You liked being bundled up and soaking up the sights and sounds of nature.

First Halloween! You were the cutest little "Pumpkin Spice Latte" we've ever seen (thanks to your Mimi, who made your creative costume).  You made your parents look like the best Starbucks baristas in town, as we whipped up the season's sweetest treat - you! We attended our church's Fall Festival in costume, and as usual, you thrived around a crowd of people.

First traffic ticket!  You insisted on demanding lunch during a drive home, so Momma stepped on the gas pedal a little too hard...in a school zone...without her driver's license.  Even the police officer was a little flustered as you continued to scream at the top of your lungs. While he shared his own experiences of life with a newborn, he didn't let us off very easy.  Over your earsplitting cries, he said "That right there, that's the sound of LIFE! Enjoy every minute of it." After silently wishing an eternity of screaming babies on him, I drove safely (and slowly) home and met your demands.

First day at "Mimi's Daycare"!  The day finally came that we had to return to work, but we are so thankful for the past 12 weeks we got to spend as a family of three at home with you!  The night before returning to work, we prayed that it wouldn't be a day of simply "surviving" but instead, a day of JOY. Sure enough, Mimi reported that you laughed more than ever, and you didn't have a single meltdown all day long. You were all smiles when we returned home to you. JOYFUL!

Happy 3 months, our sweet and sassy girl! We love you BIG time and look forward to every adventure-filled day with you.

Loving you,

Momma and Daddy
